WHERE I AM NOW

I arise today
    Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
    Through belief in the threeness,
    Through confession of the oneness
    Of the Creator of Creation.

    I arise today
    Through the strength of Christ's birth with His baptism,
    Through the strength of His crucifixion with His burial,
    Through the strength of His resurrection with His ascension,
    Through the strength of His descent for the judgement of Doom.

    I arise today
    Through the strength of the love of the Cherubim,
    In the obedience of angels,
    In the service of archangels,
    In the hope of the resurrection to meet with reward,
    In the prayers of patriarchs,
    In prediction of prophets,
    In preaching of apostles,
    In faith of confessors,
    In innocence of holy virgins,
    In deeds of righteous men.

    I arise today
    Through the strength of heaven;
    Light of sun,
    Radiance of moon,
    Splendour of fire,
    Speed of lightning,
    Swiftness of wind,
    Depth of sea,
    Stability of earth,
    Firmness of rock.

    I arise today
    Through God's strength to pilot me:
    God's might to uphold me,
    God's wisdom to guide me,
    God's eye to look before me,
    God's ear to hear me,
    God's word to speak to me,
    God's hand to guard me,
    God's way to lie before me,
    God's shield to protect me,
    God's host to save me,

    From snares of devils,
    From temptation of vices,
    From every one who shall wish me ill,
    Afar and anear,
    Alone and in a multitude.
    I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,

    Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body
         and soul,
    Against incantations of false prophets,
    Against black laws of pagandom,
    Against false laws of heretics,
    Against craft of idolatry,
    Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
    Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

    Christ to shield me today
    Against poisoning, against burning,
    Against drowning, against wounding,
    So there come to me abundance of reward.

    Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
    Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
    Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

When is a person an adult?  We have this category of people called "Teenagers."  I think that's a false category.  it is based on the word 'teen' which is the suffix of several numbers. Is that reason enough to earn a category of human development?

there's childhood. That's easy for the most part. there are babies (infants) which become toddlers, to pre-school, and then childhood certainly lasts until puberty starts.  But when does adulthood dawn?

I've never thought it made much sense to think that someone becomes an adult when they turn 18, or when they graduate from High School.  What if there were not schools? --Happy idea, I know.  What if we didn't count years? How would we know?

There is physical maturity. Clearly most women reach that years before most men.  That fact alone makes me wonder if becoming an adult should begin at 18 for both males and females!

There's emotional maturity. but what is that?  Wisdom comes from living through hard times and learning from them (some people live through hard times and stubbornly hang on to being morons, learning nothing).  Emotional maturity comes from wisdom and time, and you can be an adult and not have had many experiences, right?

The factor that means most to me is character maturity.  When a young adult begins to embrace for himself or herself a set of morals and values, and to attempt to live consistently with those values, the world sees maturity, adulthood.  Virtues like honesty, courage, kindness, self-control, love of fellow humans, love of country, love of truth, these storts of things, make someone very grown up, to my mind.

yet, there are many people who are 8-graders as far as character is concerned and they stay that way till they're old and die.

When does adulthood start? what is an adult? Hmmm.......

Hunting with Dick

Okay, so, Dick Cheney shot his friend on a hunting trip.  Hmm. And for this reason we have to hear about nothing else in the news for a week?  Isn't anything interesting happening in the Middle East?

Well, as of this year, I'm a hunter too. Here's a picture of me hunting:

you get tired doing all that walking in the woods!  the gun is heavy!  Funny, when I woke up, my lunch was gone.
